Jacqueline Fernandez grew up in Bahrain, Manama. She is Sri Lankan and comes from a diverse ethnic background. Her father Elroy is Sri Lankan (Catholic Sinhalese) and her mother Kim is a Malaysian. Jacqueline is the youngest of two brothers and a brother who is older. Her parents moved to Bahrain in 1980s due to the Lankan turmoil and her birth and education were in Bahrain. When she finished her studies in Bahrain, she was awarded an Scholarship to pursue a degree at the University of Sydney, where she pursued a master's degree in Media and Communications in Sydney, Australia. A lover of cultures as well as languages, she attended Berlitz Language School in which she learned Spanish and improved her French and Arabic. Miss Sri Lanka 2006 won Miss Universe 2006 competition in March 2006 and she participated as Miss Universe 2006 also. Following her win of the Miss Sri Lanka title in 2006, she entered the world of TV and was the host of a show about Sri Lanka's business, named Lanka Business Report. Padukone, her mother was the famous badminton star Prakash Padukone, was born in Copenhagen and grew up in Bangalore. When she was a teenager she participated in national badminton tournaments. She later resigned from playing and went on to become a designer. Padukone is a native of Mangalorean origins and speaks Konkani as her mother tongue. Padukone Village is located within Kundapura Taluk within the Udupi District in Karnataka located in India. Prakash Padukone was a badminton legend, who retired in the 80s. The mother of her daughter, a travel agent, is also from this area.
